GREAT MUSIC + INSIGHTFUL TEACHING + FUN STUDENT MINISTRY
Welcome to Victory
Thank you so much for considering a visit to Victory Church. Visiting anywhere for the first time can be daunting so here's a page to help you enjoy the experience and get the most out of your first visit.
We have a Sunday Morning Worship service at 10am and at 8:45-9:45am we have a Discover Hour. This is a time where we'll have prayer, host a class for baptism or membership, leadership training, and all kinds of stuff.
Sunday Morning is our main worship time. It's a high energy service that starts with a short opening, then a time of engaging and inspirational music, some video announcements followed by a time of insightful and practical Bible teaching. We close with an offering and we ask everyone to fill out a Communication Card. You can expect to be finished in about 75 minutes.
Our Wednesday Mid Week (6:30-8pm) is a more relaxed service where we offer a discussion & practical based Bible study always beginning with a time of worsip. We have small groups for the entire family from pre school through adults including Rooted Youth for our middle and high school students. On Wednesday we thrive on group discussion on a variety of topics from prayer, spiritual gifts, biblical studies, marriage and family.
York-Poquoson are known for water culture so we're a very casual place. Our only dress code is that you wear clothes. In the summer, we want you to stay cool but stay covered. Feel free to dress formally though you won't find many at our services dressed up. Our lead pastor usually wears jeans and a dress shirt.
What about my children
We love our kids! That's why we have the Victory Kids! It's a safe and healthy environment for them to experience God in an age-appropriate way. Infants to Preschoolers are cared for during the entire service. Our elementary aged children will go to the #blueroom for the Victory Kids service. Sixth grade and older remain in the main service though sometimes they help out with the younger children.
In Victory Kids, your children will laugh, learn and will meet Jesus on a level appropriate to their age. Mary Hunt, Melissa Jackson and their team provides age-appropriate worship and prayer, theme-related snack ideas, review of the Bible story, and hands-on activity centers to practice Bible truths.
All children's ministries are located off the main worship area. When you show up to Victory Kids you will be asked to sign your child "in and out" at the kiosk in the foyer. Once you sign in, you will receive a name tag with a number on it. That name tag will be required to sign out your child once the service is over. All of our Victory Kids volunteers have been prescreened with federal and local background checks.
WHAT KIND OF CHURCH IS VICTORY?
We are a Christian church affiliated through fellowship and accountability with the Assemblies of God, and are part of the Potomac Ministry Network. We have great relationships with churches of other types and denominations on the Peninsula and enjoy worshipping with them as well.
WHAT Does Victory Believe?
We believe in biblical Christianity that is anchored in "The Holy Scripture, The Holy Spirit and The Holy Community of Faith" i.e. the Scripture, the Spirit and the Space. To put it simply, we try to re-discover the Book of Luke-Acts in everyday life.
With that said, we believe in a historical and dynamic Christian faith which confesses:
WE believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
from where He is coming to judge the living and the dead.
WE believe in the Holy Spirit,
the universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
We are affiliated with the Assemblies of God, which is an awesome fellowship of churches! For a more in-depth conversation on doctrine you can click over to the official Assemblies of God website here and email Pastor Jame, for any big heady theological ideas.
Who are the assemblies of god?
The AG is a worldwide group of churches held together in relationship, committed to training leaders, planting churches and reaching the nations. There are fellowships in over 200 countries across the world who are affiliated with the Assemblies of God with approximately 3 million believers worshipping together in churches here in the USA & 60 million worldwide. You can find out more about the history of the AG by visiting their website.
Why the ASsemblies of god?
We value relationship and believe as a church we can achieve more with other like-minded churches than we can on our own. We value accountability and believe we can benefit by being in relationship with other like-minded churches and leaders. We value people and believe we can empower individuals, train leaders and be more effective by being part of a wider movement.
